Lamrock to study insurance changes Daily Gleaner
Justice and Consumer Affairs Minister Kelly Lamrock says he will study Nova Scotia's changes to auto insurance payments.
"It is certainly something I am going to be looking at with a lot of interest," he said Thursday.
"We are going to take a look at what Nova Scotia is doing and if there is anything from their experience we can learn ... we will have a look at it."
Nova Scotia announced this week that it's raising the cap on minor injury auto insurance payments from $2,500 to $7,500 and tightening the definition of minor injury.
New Brunswick also has a $2,500 cap, which was introduced in 2003 to control skyrocketing auto insurance premiums.
Lamrock said he wants to see the numbers used by Nova Scotia in its review.
He said there's a balance been maximum protection and benefit for people who have been injured in an accident while not increasing unnecessarily costs for the insurance industry.
That could lead to higher premiums or people being denied coverage, he said.
