Without a "public option" this is not health reform.

This is a very crazy country we have, when it comes to health. All sorts of other countries have single-payer national health and do very, very well thank you very much. These are not bolshevik-run places but places like Canada, U.K., France. They have had single-payer national health under "labor" administrations, under conservatives, under socialists, under christian democrats. It's not an issue. Are there waits there? Yes. You think there aren't waits here? The difference is there, the fraction of their GDP that goes to health is much much less than ours and no one is denied care. Worried about outcomes? Check out whatever statistic you want. Infant mortality? Life-expectancy? Physician-caused death and injury? We lose on every statistic except one: we have health insurance companies that make huge profits: top that, Canada!

So, if you're a big shareholder in Aetna, or Human, or Cigna etc.: go for it. Tell all the lies about "Obama death panels" you want-- it's in your interest.
