Founder and president Al Brandano sees limitless potential for the concept, and the company's first charitable project will be to distribute the technology to as many military families as possible. To do so, he's enlisted everyone from a former hockey great to his own advertising agency.

Brandano's wife, Margo, came up with the original idea when she was driving back from a college visit to her daughter. Frustrated at the way things had gone, she remembered thinking, "I wish I could hear my parents' voices." The idea grew for a 24/7 method of hearing loved ones' voices, and she approached her husband Al, an entrepreneur. "It went on the 'honey-do list,'"‰" he said with a smile. But this was different from changing the storm doors or going to the dump, and Al Brandano saw a business begin to take shape.
The Brandanos hired a lawyer for a patent search, who found "nothing like we wanted to do," Brandano recalled. "Nobody was archiving voices." They did market research, held a focus group, and assembled a team of professionals to help them refine the concept.
