Regulator eases Quinn ban in UK Irish Independent

QUINN Insurance is now allowed to offer car insurance to learner drivers in Britain and Northern Ireland but is still banned from selling other products outside the Republic.
This specific area has been re-opened as it is believed to be one of the more profitable areas of the company's UK operations.
The Financial Regulator announced the easing of the UK ban in a brief statement yesterday -- but the respite falls far short of employee demands for Quinn to be allowed to resume full service in the UK.
Quinn is best known as a commercial insurer in the UK. Insurance to learner drivers represents just 10pc of its UK business.
A spokesman for Quinn Insurance welcomed the decision and said it was a small step in the right direction.
A spokesman for Quinn's administrators, who have been running the company since March 30, declined to comment.
It is understood, however, that the administrators are preparing fresh plans that could pave the way for the re-opening of more business lines in the UK over the coming weeks.
